Every day new dogs arrive at the animal shelter. Each one is given a sign with a name -- Stray, Unwanted Christmas Gift, Grown Too Large. But the smallest dog in the very last cage sits beneath a sign that only reads: Unknown. When people come to the animal shelter looking for new pets, Unknown is hardly ever noticed. She just sits in the shadows and shivers. But when fire threatens to consume the shelter and all the animals within it, only timid Unknown has the courage to try to save herself and her companions. Unknown's heartwarming story gives young readers a dog's-eye-view of life on the other side of the fence.
